FutureFocus team

FutureFocus is Telford & Wrekin Council’s specialist Careers Service, based in Southwater One. The service provides impartial information, advice and guidance on education, employment and training opportunities, including apprenticeships, to young people aged 16 to 19 or up to 25 years with additional needs in Telford. Support is offered through a range of methods, including face-to-face appointments, MS Teams, telephone, text and emails, depending on the circumstances.

FutureFocus supports young people to make realistic, informed and aspirational decisions about their future. FutureFocus can help by:

  • Exploring realistic options including education and training.
  • Referral and signposting (with permission) to other organisations if further specialist support is required.
  • All aspects of job search, CV advice and guidance, preparation with job interviews and increasing confidence with transferrable skills.
  • Support and advice to help with apprenticeship applications.
  • Choosing the right courses and exploring all options to meet the young person’s needs.
  • Advice on local and national labour market information and opportunities available.
  • Support to overcome barriers to education or employment, including confidence building and support with self-esteem and motivation.
  • Involving family in the learning plan, if needed.

FutureFocus provides a comprehensive traded service to schools & colleges, both in and around Telford. It supports schools and colleges in providing young people with impartial information, advice & guidance so that they may make successful transitions and have improved outcomes. IAG is an umbrella term and covers a range of activities and interventions that help young people to become more self-reliant and better able to manage their personal and career development, including learning.

FutureFocus can work with any age that the school or college would like a programme delivered for. It uses the IAG Quality Standards to support the delivery of high quality IAG, evaluating the effectiveness of the service and contributing towards the school/college meeting their statutory duty as set out in the Education Act 2011 and the Gatsby Benchmarks.

FutureFocus holds the Matrix Quality Standard for information, advice and guidance services, with all staff qualified to Level 6 in Careers Guidance.
